I liked this game so don't get me wrong. But it was 1990 and there really weren't very many RPG's to go around so to be honest I would have played pretty much whatever.
This game was on the Sega Genesis during the "prime time' of the console wars by they way.
that's right, it is a photo of the friggin instruction manual... remember those?
This game was extremely bizarre because of the fact that it had so many different perspectives and it was a bit strange that the game would incorporate all of them into the same title especially since this process would have almost certainly been more expensive to the developer.
In cities you would be in the usual top-down perspective like this.
upon leaving cities and travelling to objectives you would have a 1st person perspective with a massive side map. the map was normally what you would be looking at rather than the 1st person perspective because if you only looked at the 1st person perspective I would imagine that walking around in circles is pretty much all you would do.
and since we were in the age of completely random "road fights" it would jump you to a different type of battle sequence that was real time and actually quite inventive for its time because it wasn't turn based like Final Fantasy or Phantasy Star
To make matters even more fun all of the boss battles incorporated a perspective that was not used in ANY OTHER PART of the game like this
So this game was a development hot mess so to speak. In order to play it you needed to be prepared for all sorts of potential perspective shifts and the game really searched for an identity because of this. It was not well received but I gotta say that I LOVED it. I played it through to the end and I consider it to be one of my favorite games from the very early 90's
If you have a chance to emulate this game I strongly suggest you don't. You will likely get frustrated in the first town because your character walks so unbelievably slow and you have to do that usual "talk to everyone in the town" thing that we only had the patience for as teenagers in the 80's when RPG's were new to us and we would do just about anything to solve them.
this video is very short and well, there just aren't many videos of this game because it was before the time of making videos of games you were playing. It was just one of my favorite RPG's and while it absolutely sucks by today's standards it was pretty awesome back in 1990.
