I began working on this
a couple of nights back, and it's not anywhere near finished yet, but I figured it would cool to do this walkthrough as 2 or 3 part thing again, as I continue finalizing the track, and adding/removing various instruments. So far, things are pretty simple, mostly a single melody line, bass and drums, but I would like to add some harmonies and variations to spice things a bit, so when I do, I'll make sure to update you accordingly. For now, let's go through the song as it sits currently.
Listen to Unimorph here.
Track 1 plays our main
melody line, which will be mirrored by Tracks 4, 5, 7 and 8, adding various textures to the melody. Essentially each section consists of 7 bars of 4/4, so the first time we play the melody we have 2 bars of resting, but the 2nd only 1, totaling 7 measures in total. Easy little trick to make a straight 4/4 more interesting. We are in C minor, and play a C, then a C an octave up, G, Ab, and finally Eb before the measures of rest.
Tracks 1, 4, 5, 7, and 8, described above.
Track 2 is our drums
which I made a little more interesting by offsetting the snare hits, giving it a sort of off-kilter feel, but still driving and rhythmic enough to feel the beat the whole time. Tracks 3 and 6 are our bass tracks, which play the progression pictured below in the screenshot. I thought this worked really well with the rest of the song, I love how some notes hold out for a while, and others are heavy/low staccato oompfs-of-a-sort.

As mentioned before,
Tracks 4, 5, 7 and 8 all follow the same progression as Track 1, but using various other synth sounds, just to get some nice layering. I would like to add something playing some chords, and maybe a single lead instrument to play an ACTUAL melody, and turn the parts in these tracks into just accents to the main melody. When I do, you'll be the first to know!
