Many raise their eyebrows questioning the real intent why people post charity work on social media. To my end, I ask why not? One if some people wash their dirty laundry in internet, spread gossip and fake news or sell stuff without paying tax or post endless pictures of themselves why not use the same for spreading awareness that these charity exist and they need help.
For many Sunday's now I had been using my time helping the Alagad sa Kabus of Mabolo to provide food for the needy. This week they served sauted mongo beans, egg omelette and fried chicken. See the joy of attendees especially the kids.
So what does this group need in their ten am Sunday feeding? They need generous fiancial donors and happy workers. This time they were able to get assistance from a Vietnamese school. offering English class. Here they are washing the dishes after the event. In exchange we made them taste the food.
Helding it takes a lot of human power from planning, preparation, serving and after care. But mind you its rewarding at best. Its no joke dealing with variety of people who had the worst days of their lives. I am saddened at most when I hear them complaint but seeing my fellow workers serve with joy I am encouraged to take it with a grain of salt
The passion and commitment of this group always inspires me to be generous. They kick off the feeding program by sharing the gospel.
I would say many Filipinos attend mass every Sunday but I seriously wonder if they take this teachings to heart considering the rampant criminality and the observable poverty. Indeed this group is a rarity as they took their Christian vows seriosly.Indeed without service to others Christianity would pale in comparison to other religion.
Had it not been for a chance discovery I would not have known of this group and their noble mission. Thus I hope that through this blog I reach many who might want to donate their finance or time to the needy.
Yes it's better to teach them to fend for themselves but let's be honest it will take some time so shall we just close our eyes while they struggle to make ends meet?
Yes one can argue that parents should be responsible to provide enough for their kids but ones lack of wisdom should not discourage us from helping them when we see they need it badly!
Yes there is a need to resolve hunger but in that process let's not forget it's important to save lives while we can. It's essential we lessen the monetary burden as much as we could. So they will not be pushed to commit crimes
Nowadays, senseless news or nude photographs and extreme violence news gets more liked that crucial issues that affect humanity. It scary to think we might be desensitized by the suffering of many as it has been a social ill for some long.
On this note, I think it's best to blog about it just to make a record that there are people who care and sweat their heart and soul and dig into their own pockets to alleviate this no matter how unpopular the subject is. Because at the end of the day, this is what matters not the appreciation one gets from social network.
Many would say the altruism is boosted by social media hype. Personally, ones intention is for God to decipher. As long as the mission is served it doesn't matter how social media is used in the process. The more it becomes viral the better in my opinion because those donations can be just around the corner.
Till next post,
