I'm dying to write an oped about news and politics but I'm so preoccupied with the last renovations going on in my home. My hands are like Swiss cheese from pulling ancient screens out of rotten frames and my back is twisted six ways over. Working on a 110 year old house reminds me of working warehouse construction in Boston because of all the unnamable bit of debris you end up eating.
I've saved the best for last, today I'm scraping the exterior paint off the trim outside andthen getting the flagstone basement project started.
I can't tell you how exciting washing decades of filth out down there is going to be.
After 10 years of fixing this place it seems like there will always be more to do so I feel like paraphrasing DeVinci by saying art is never finished, only abandoned. Let me tell you I'm ready to abandon this place asap.
I'm sure a lot of you out there can relate and have plenty of home repair stories under your belt to share. When is it ok to say I've had enough and the next guy can deal with it?
