Hello fellow Steemian Gamers,
The concept of loot boxes in video games has been a hot topic in the past few months, attention has been centered around them ever since Activision filed for a patent that would allow matchmaking to be manipulated based on your loot box or in game purchases.
Although the above isn't our topic for debate If you have any opinions on this subject feel free to leave a comment below and get talking about it.
Loot box debate...
You may or may not be aware that a petition has been put together to classify a loot box purchase as gambling. By doing this it will basically mean that depending on your country this may be illegal to purchase for anyone under a certain age and will probably cost game developers a lot of easy money.
This case has already been infront of the high court who ruled against it stating that "unlike gambling an in-game loot box always offered a reward of some kind. With gambling there is an element of luck which could lead to a loss of your input. A loot box will always offer a reward that can increase in value depending on your luck"
Another petition has since surfaced and already has 30,000 signatures, if the case is reviewed again and the high court decide that loot boxes are gambling then they will be removed from all games so even your age won't be a factor.
My question so my fellow Steemian Gamers is, Do you consider an in-game loot box to be a form of gambling?
I personally don't have a problem with it, although I may by one in hope that I get a specific reward I am happy that I get something for my money. I would think that the people signing the petition don't purchase loot boxes so removing them will have no affect on anything they do in game.
As always let me know your thoughts below I'm eager to see your responses and I look forward to a healthy gaming debate.
