Abstract Test Play: Someone left the party dresses all alone and tossed them in the corner of the studio. I saw it and thought what cool textures. I need to play with the lights here. Must be cool. Well, that turned into a session with my Lensbaby and the Sigma Macro ... well here are some heads-turning results with the Camera Rotation tool.

The coolest Spin of the night!
73 Seconds Light through the Lensbaby with the Camera setto ISO 100. All that done in 12 rotation steps.
Allen in 12 Schritten rotiert.

The Setup with Lensbaby
The clothes were laying on the floor and the camera rig was tilted slightly downwards. The Lensbaby focal point was in the upper left corner so the area with the yellow fabric would be in focus and the rest get lost in blur.

The lenses I tested

This is my "LenseBaby". This is super cool because it's like a tilt-shift but you set a 'sweet spot' anywhere in the image and get a smooth background.

This is the Sigma 105mm F2.8 Macro which I set to some F22, attached to the Rotation Kit .

The tools I tested

Here I used a little cone to get a narrow area to light up. It's asymmetric so I can shine light onto the surface and the light does not go to the sensor. In the end, this turned out to be the more practical tool and was used for most of the images you see.

To get a very narrow low angle for the light to touch the textures I attached an adaptor that from the normal Flashlight head to a flat plexi blade. This way I get only a small narrow light-slit and can apply the light very accurately. Turns out this wasn't the most practical but OK.

Testing the procedure and practicing the light performance

First trial: I missed a bit of light at the last step of the rotation here.

Camera & Lens Settings
These are all single exposure Light Paintings. The exposure times vary between 72s and 222s. All one shot no lens-capping or any tricks. Just clothing left for me to shine the lights on.
Das sind alles Einzelbelichtungen. Die Belichtungszeiten variieren hier zwischen 72s und 222s. Alles in einer Aufnahme, ohne irgendwelche Tricks. Einfach paar Klamotten gefunden und angeleuchtet.
The Party dresses

This is a quick test shot to evaluate the time I have. To make it more interesting I arrange the clothes in a slight arc shape. I am pretty happy the way the texture came out.

One more shot before we go

This one was taken with the Sigma 105mm lens at F16 with the Camera to ISO 500 set, open for 55 seconds uninterrupted. Here I chose to not take exact angles for the rotation.

I hope you found these images inspirational. If you have more questions please do not hesitate. I am happy to share my knowledge.
If you think this is Spam, why did you read this far, and why the fuck bother? Move on from your self-righteous mind state and bury yourself. Don't bother about what others may find interesting. Just stay in your bubble and ...
Cheer Up, Guys!
