During my last business trips to Chiang Rai i had the opportunity to visit the Doi Tung Mae Fah Luang Gardens in Chiang Rai. Chiang Rai is regarded as the land of outstanding natural beauty cool high mountain areas where you can visit hill tribes , trek through the jungles and see many beautiful flower gardens.
The Doi Tung Royal Villa and Mae Fah Luang Garden in Chiang Rai are the most visited by tourist from around the world it was home and residence of Her late Royal Highness Princess Srinakarindra, the Princess Mother of Thailand she had it built in Lanna and Swiss architectural styles in 1987. After she had passed away she had it planned to lease out to the Royal Forest Department.
They say that Mae Fah Luang Garden is the most beautiful landscaped garden in Thailand filled with hundreds of different kinds of plants and flowers from all around the world because if it's cool climates in the mountains , Her late Royal Highness Princess Srinakarindra had the 10 acres of gardens mostly down in temperate western flowers which gave the opportunity to Thai people who could not afford to travel overseas to enjoy and admire all of these beautiful western flowers.
This magnificent sculpture that stands in the middle of the gardens the Princess Mother named this sculpture "Continuity" to encourage the Thai people that continuity ensures the success of any endeavor.
With the cool climate all year round you not only see all them colorful gardens with many various types of annual and perennial flowering plants but they also have beautiful rock gardens , water gardens , ornamental garden and palm gardens and there are many wooden benches underneath trees around the gardens if you just want to sit and admire the scenery.
There is also a beautiful coffee shop called the " Cafe Doi Tung " where you can relax have a coffee or a refreshing ice coffee and enjoy the breathtaking mountains views from an elevation of 1,630 meters above sea level, looking out into the city of Chiang Rai over the mountains or observe the ducks swimming around in the ponds.
Unfortunately i wish i had more time a few hours was obviously not enough to see 10 acres of beauty there is so much more to do and see in this huge garden they have enclosed cactus house , fern house and orchid house which i intend going back to see on my next trip and if you want to really spent more time there to do some jungle trekking and the Doi Tung Tree Top Walk which i heard are rope bridges that take you above areas of the forest where you can overlook fields of coffee trees, the dam and distant mountains well there are resorts near by you can book into.
