When they are adults they feed on nectar, but when they are larvae they feed on worms. The adult wasp uses the reeds to make compartments with mud where it lays the larvae and a reserve of maggots for them to feed on. They leave the plants on the terrace clean of worms. They are a delight, I love them. This year I think they will have to bring the worms from somewhere else because I haven't seen any worm marks on the terrace.
