Have you ever had the opportunity to try the most bitter tasting melon in the world? It's called Chinese bitter melon also known as "MOMORDICA CHARANTIA". I found it in my local supermarket and was amazed at it's look. In India it is also know as bitter gourd. It not only a melon you eat but also in herbal medicine. It is widely grown in Asia, Africa and the Caribbean. It is the most bitter among all fruits and vegetables.
This melon grows on vines as high as 5m (16 feet) in length. This fruit has a distinct warty exterior and an oblong shape with a In cross-sections its hollow with a thin layer of flesh surrounding the seed cavity filled with large flat seeds. They remove the seeds as they are very bitter.
It is naturally low in carbs and fat, and a good source of fiber and aids in digestion. Full of antioxidants, Vitamin A, B and C. Helps control blood sugar in people with diabetes. To eat the bitter melon you slice into pieces and fry in a fry pan with olive, or boil, steam as well as pickled, curried or with stuffed with meat and rice.
