This advent I'm building the Home Alone house out of Lego (it's set 21330 for those playing at home) which is designed as 24 bags or sections of pieces as well as drinking 24 Australian craft beers curated by Carwyn Cellars called canvent. So each day we have a new beer and a new bit of Lego to build.
Here are the previous parts:
Day 1-3
Day 4 - 7
Day 8 - 10
Day 11-13
Which means are are a bit over half way through and need to start today at....
Day 14
Today's beer was from a brewery I'd never heard of Dangerous Ales - I must admit I do like getting these new breweries - This one is from Milton in NSW (I have no real idea where that is) and their beer is a Plum Sour and it's a really solid sour, super refreshing, can’t say I taste a whole lot of sour, it’s a little more generic than that but a very nice brew 4/5
Now onto the Home Alone portion of the post. Now if you are following along I mentioned at the end of the last post that today I was going to actually watch Home Alone (which I maybe has never done in it's entirety) but I was doing it all special like by seeing it with a live score by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra
Now Home Alone is like a comic book come to life, it's basically Will E Coyote, the Road Runner and maybe Tom and Jerry fighting in ways that should kill people but somehow doesn't, but weirdly it has an amazing score by John Williams (yes that John Williams) - The movie isn't great but I would say if you ever get the opportunity to see an Orchestra play a score live do it, but choose something better than Home Alone, I've seen this orchestra play Star Wars and it is truly amazing the complexity.
In terms of the lego build we are on the second floor now, we have a bedroom, I think it's Kevin's parents - I was watching for details in the movie and I have to say the Lego model gets a lot of the little details right.
Day 15
Okay so we have got a bit weird. Today's beer is from Gweilo. They are a Hong Kong based brewery who also/maybe only brews in Australia and this may or may not be a colloboration with Rocky Ridge brewery from WA, untappd tells me it is, the can doesn't mention Rocky Ridge at all. But it would make sense given the style is Rocky Road cheesecake sour - yep that's their thing. I’m not sure about this one it’s is a couple of beers that alone I think I would have liked, I dig sours, I dig big lactose filled beers but Together I’m not sure it’s working. 3.75/5
As you can see in the over exposured (sorry) picture we have another bedroom, I think this one is Buzz's complete with collapasing shelves
Day 16
Lost Palms are our Brewery today. They are from the Gold Coast - I know because I've been there - in my mind they are about sun and sand and beaches - None of this is coming across on the can design - their beer called Twisted Fiction which is a name that seems to have nothing to do with Christmas but is a Belgian dark ale so in Europe it might make sense somehow, but is certainly not laid back beach vibes. The first thought is booze and at 10% that makes sense but it eases into it and the toffee notes and spice come through 4/5
In the McCalister's house we are starting to build the front of the upstairs level, again these giant walls of brown bricks only broken up by heaps of window pieces are a) pretty boring to build and b) hinged so that you can open it and see inside. Should mentioned also that we are 1 step behind in the lego pics so actually I built what you see above yesterday and that second level will be place on the first level at some point.
Day 17
That time is now for a lego build this section was much like the day before looks of brown, but we have a really substantial house now - with 7 days to go we have a couple first and second level we still have an attic to go then a kitchen and basement out the back and then Kevin's treehouse.
And beer, let's talk beer
The Brewery today is Six String, out of Sydney and I can't think of the last beer of theirs I had - but they have this very cool rock athestic going on, they often do collabs with musicians or just puns perhaps. This Christmas beer is called Cherry Lips and Chocolate Curls which it certainly making me think of the Flaming Lips. But it's also a reference to a Black Forest Cake because this is a Black Forest Stout. Unfortunately most of the work might have been put into the name because it's a pretty generic sort of stout, nice smooth mouthfeel, a bit of booze and sweetness but no real distinct Black Forest ness. 3.75/5
And as always this it part of the #Beersaturday event organised by - still going strong after 4+ years. And if you want to keep up with this build I flip between here and the #Lego community look for the next installment in 3 or 4 days over there.
