Welcome to my DTube Hebrew reading & language series.
The full study is now on line covering the Alef-Beyt here in my blog. This is a beginners program to teach letters, vowels, and reading. The vowels are marked in this bible and are designed to help avoid confusion on what a word is and how it is pronounced. The confusion is obvious in the hundreds of interpretations globally.
Today we are continuing in Genesis 4:6-8
Conception, birth, adulthood and profession of Cain and Abel came quickly without much to think about over the last few lessons.
The Creator of all things had conversations with each human on the earth. Attempting to keep them from the first choice that banned them from the garden and caused them to have to struggle through life, then onward, he is coaching Cain as we see today. He tells him that things will continue peacefully if he can master sin, if not, sin will master him.
Siblings compete. The father of all life is now telling Cain that he will be lifted up if he does well, but if not then sin is waiting with a desire to consume him. "You must rule over it" said Elohim. Was that an order? "Rule over sin!" Or was it a warning?
Any father would tell his son how to use a tool such as a saw. He would also tell him the consequences of holding in incorrectly (the warning). On the way to the hospital the father would likely be talking about the healing process and how sore the injury would be. I do not believe that a loving father would be adding salt to the wound, so to speak.
Sin was a possibility from the beginning, the adversary chose it first. Then he talked the woman into sinning, against the loving advice of the God. Now, jealousy consumed Cain and he chose to give in to it, allowing it to rule over him. The result was the loss of his brother.
Last week we looked more at vocabulary and this week we see the lesson and choice of Cain.
Here is the English to compare.
The only thing I am pointing out here is the use of hey marking the beginning of a question. It usually means "the" or signifies "in the direction of" something. I also did underline the father's warning to Cain.
