Hello everyone, welcome to another amazing series of our daily French lesson.
It’s Friday and I hope we all have had a great week so far.
I have a simple one for us #education lovers, we should all look into it quickly and I promise not to take so much of our time. Today’s word is RIEN, just a four lettered word but important in the French language and dictionary.
It is widely and commonly used in spoken and written Français, français means French and Rien means nothing. It has an easy pronunciation pattern and it is pronounced like ryehn (soft and smooth).
Now aside from NOTHING the word also means something bit different when used in an expression or when there is a prefix added to it.
I hope we know what a prefix means? For the few of us that don’t : prefix is a short word or letters or phrase attached to the beginning of a word.
Example : organise prefix = dis organise (dis) is the prefix.
Now lets move onTake a look at these examples
Je ne vois rien — I see nothing
Il ne dit rien — He says nothing
It is often used with “ne” in French to form a negative sentence.
Even though it means “nothing”, it is a very important word because it helps express absence, silence, or emptiness in a sentence.
Now in French there is a word or short expression that goes De rien
De is the prefix and when attached to Rien it means NO PROBLEM 😉 and it’s very handy for conversations so do well to take that into your heart.
Thank you so much for reading
