After passing the Sadao land border from Thailand to Malaysia, I found myself in Kedai and I was trying to go to Penang by hitchhiking. It was raining and I actually did not like the country at first because there was a silly traffic jam after the border. First impression in Malaysia was not good, but I knew that it was going to change with my positivity.
Then a guy with a Mercedes car stopped for me. At first I felt insecure with the luxury but after seeing the family in the car, I jumped into it. He was an electronical engineer working in Penang. When I said 'I am also an old engineer and a new traveler.' with a huge backpack on my back, he was shocked and he kept asking 'Why did you quit your job?' all the way. This was a funny ride.
It was the first time that I arrived at Penang Island after passing the longest bridge that I have ever been over. Old Penang Bridge's length is 13,5 km and the second new Penang Bridge is 24 km. I firstly wondered why they needed to build these overlong bridges, but after passing the old bridge in 1,5 hours of traffic, I realised that there was an unfair population distribution on this area.
One of the main reason of my travel decision was to move away from this modern life problems for a while.. But thanks to god, they found me again on that bridge. :)
But after waking up in the morning of the other day, my opinion changed faster than I thought. I saw many people from different ethnicities, different cultures, different religions and they were living together in a perfect harmony on that place, George Town. This was enough for me to feel positive again in that country. Love and respect was above all concepts. These different colours are the true richness of that local area.
To support my angle of view, I want to show the different colours and cultural depictions of Choo Chay Keong Temple in George Town. This is a Buddhist Temple, built in the name of a Chinese Clan (Yap), in Armenian Street. This is the richness that I mentioned above.
Number 1 - Just an ordinary day, the bicycle taxi drivers waiting for their customers with colourful flowers in front of colourful depictions of the temple.
Number 2 - The Yin-Yang symmetry and beautiful engravings on the walls
Number 3 - A depicted carving of the Chinese Clan life
Number 4 - A ceramic painting, Chinese zodiac rooster on it
Number 5 - A detailed interior design and colourful fruit serving to the gods
Number 6 - The day continues...
Thank you for reading my post.
Wish you a calm day!
