This time around I joined a gold foil fray to see if our guild could get more participants, as rewards are better when there's more participation.
I rented the cheapest GF summoner I could find. And it happened to be Thaddius Brood from the death splinter. I was able to find him under 2.5/dec per day. Which is pretty cheap. This is a pretty good indicator as to why card prices sank. I mean they sank hard. There's simply an over supply. Hopefully card prices turn around in the not so distant future. But I digress.
Thankfully I already had a couple death splinter gold foils from the few Chaos Legion packs I opened up. So should the rule set be a favorable one, I might have a decent chance at winning otherwise, you could count this fray as one simply entered so we could get extra participation rewards.
RESULTS
As a team we came in sixth place overall.
However we did receive 415 merits which is higher than normal for a sixth place finish. Not sure if this was because I entered the GF fray.
If not my whole GF experiment I must say pretty much backfired on me. As we only got 9 participants. To be honest it should have been 11. I mean when I play and enter regular foil brawls we usually go ten deep because no one can fill Gold foil. I must say its kind of disappointing. Not sure if people have stopped caring in our guild.
Aside from lower participation rate even though I joined a gold foil rule set, since I only had a death splinter summoner, I had to surrender one of our battles because it did not allow for death. As a result, I only got 277 merits. Talk about don't let the door hit you on the way out.
This is the second time I rent a GF summoner in our guild were its backfired. Both times participation rate sucked and obviously I got my butt kicked. This is probably the last time I do that. From now on, I'll do regular battles lol.
MY BATTLES
Battle 1
Not much to say here. I went with the only death splinter GF cards I had. The rule set was relatively high mana so I got destroyed. Their heavy sneak attacked combined with their nasty range on their back line destroyed my team. That's ok I entered this brawl not necessarily to win but to help our participation rate.
Battle 2
For this battle, it might as well been a surrender. Just kidding not really thankfully at least I got to participate. But I couldnt do much as the rule set relegated me to only one card. Either way I would of gotten decimated even if I've had better cards. As the opponent had a GF Llam quite an expensive card.
If anything this battle is a pretty good reflection of the game economy. There is a big disparity with the have's and the have nots. But hey I'm not complaining, I do my best with what I have. Should card prices start going up and SPS make a turn to the upside I too will be doing alright.
But for now things are bleak. Just have to weather the storm. But I digress again lol.
That's it for battles as I only had three, and the third was a surrender by me as rule set would not allow for GF death splinter, which was the only one I had a summoner for.
SUMMARY
Sometimes, your best intentions don't pan out. And this #brawlreport is a perfect example of that. Regardless, I still had fun.
Renting out GF summoner didn't help improve participation, and to boot I got less merits because of a surrender. Pretty rough brawl I must say. But hey thats the way the cookie crumbles. There's always next week. Lol
