Fellow Steemians,
I've been a full time Steemian for about 2 months now, even though I don't consider this to be work. I work online as a freelancer so Steemit is always near at hand. - To me, Steemit shouldn't be considered your main source of income. - You should think of Steemit for what it is:
A superb, new, innovative social media platform where you can make money. You can make $1 or $10,000. And you can end up with zero. - No matter what amount you end up with, you have a fair chance, like everybody else.
I haven't been lucky enough to reach my personal goal of a $1,000 post, but I have been lucky enough to make a very decent amount which I am totally satisfied with. - I see all my earnings on Steemit as a huge bonus. - As extra money. Especially as I can both withdraw my earnings and pay for things in real life, but also due to the fact that I have Steem Power. Each time I earn Steem Power, I invest. No matter if I buy Steem Power or if I earn it from my posts. I still see this as an investment as I wouldn't have got the Steem Power from my posts if I didn't publish my content. Even if I would be fortunate enough to score a few hundred on each post, I still wouldn't consider steemit as my main source of income. - And you know why? - Because I personally think it's wrong.
As a freelancer, I depend on orders to make my living.. - But I can't see my posts on Steemit as work. - I spend an average of a few hours on each post on Steemit for sure, but I do it because I want to. - I publish my posts because I want to share the content. I want to share my knowledge, my stories and my thoughts. - That's not enough to consider my posts being work. - And that's definitely not enough to set a price tag on it.
As soon as I hit that "publish button", I leave it in the hands of the readers. - Upvote or not. Rewards or not. - It's all up to each and everyone to decide. - I'll be around even if my posts ends up with a big fat zero.
If and when I'm looking to make money off of my knowledge.. - I create and sell a product. Or a service. - As the freelancer I am. - That's how I earn money. I provide my clients with solutions for their problems. Most of my clients could solve their problems themselves but they hire me. They pay me to do it for them. - That's how I make a living online. And that is my main source of income.
However, I'm fortunate enough to have earned something from all my posts.
Some of them have brought me a few bucks and others have given me huge rewards of $100, $200 and $500+. - And that's amazing! - With that being said, this is one of the main reasons for people to call Steemit a scam.
People look at other people's work and they feel deceived. -" Why them and why can't I?" - And I can clearly see that this is the main reason as I've seen it hundreds of times in my freelancing career. People compare themselves with others. But not only that, people consider themselves to be worth a small fortune on everything they do. Even before they've done it. - That's why haters exists.
These haters starts to downvote content, they start to write nasty and mean replies on others content and they start to create BS comments and replies on various forums and other social medias. - And everything is made out of true despair and envy.
- I work hard and I put in a ton of effort on my posts. - And I deserve the rewards.
Have I been lucky? - Of course I have! But I still deserve every single comment, the feedback & every single upvote I get. - Because I know that I put in effort. - Am I in a position to judge other people's decisions? - Am I in a position where I can depend on people's votes? - No. - And neither are you.
I'm in the exact same position as most of you. We are in the same situation. - I share my content and I can be rewarded for it. - Each time I share something on Steemit I'm aware of the fact that I might get rewarded for it. - But that's not written in stone!
No matter if I spend 5 hours writing a post, and no matter if I truly believe it's the best story ever shared before.. I have nothing more than a chance to get rewarded for it. - A chance and nothing more than that.
If get rewarded for the posts I make, Steemit is legit. If I don't get rewarded, Steemit is still legit. - If I want a chance to win the Lottery, then I'll have to play. - With higher stakes I increase my chances to win.
Before you complain and start to spread BS about Steemit. Just stop for a second. - Are you able to increase your chances? - Are you able to "play the game with higher stakes"? - Instead of creating 1 post per week, you could publish 5. - Effort, time, luck and dedication, that will bring you results in the end.
This topic has been covered before
However, I still feel obligated to continue to publish content like this, as I don't want any harm to be done. No matter if steemit lose 1 person or 10,000 people due to false claims about steemit being a scam. - I won't accept it and neither should you. - Even though I'm only one single person, a person who consider himself being nothing more than seaweed, I will not accept such false statements. I will protect and defend steemit. Just as I would protect my family and my friends.
