for some weeks now the ceo of moniepoint has been on the news, trust Nigerians when the want to drag, I am not here to pick sides but to spill out the fact.
just this evening. I read an article on Facebook were a former minister of finance said she spoke with Dangote were he said, he is struggling to find qualified staffs to hire in Nigeria.
Mr Tosin Eniolorunda C.E.O of moniepoint actually spoke a lot at how frustrating it is to find capable hands in Nigeria to fill over 500 vacancies in his company, saying his company operates global standards and so needs capable hands to fill in some good positions but can't find them, over a week this has been going viral with everyone taking a stand against the CEO over what he said, dragging him from every angle
When I stumbled on the post from the former minister of finance, about the same issue I knew there was really a problem to sort out qualified candidates for a vacan positions
the only valid post I came across was from a 60 year old man. validating the ceo's stands on recruiting qualified staffs in his fintech company, he said, up till this time he had never seen such a great lapses of skilled youth
He pointed to several reasons for this, our broken educational system, social media distraction, the hookup lifestyle, the Yahoo lifestyle, and a creeping culture of laziness.
I agree with him completely because I can relate to this
let me talk about the social media for instance, how is it that comedy, sexual content post gets most of the highest views and reactions, people just want to laugh relax and careless about learning anything, just whiling away time having fun with no impact
don't tell me it's the algorithm, because the algorithm only pushes what people already like, watch, comment, share, whatever you depend a second pause on while scrolling is what is design to appear more on your feeds.
in a country were 85% of her youth spend time online doing absolutely nothing worthwhile, do you know the level of distraction that is up there?, how many can really discipline themselves to go for a skill. pay for a course. upgrade and intentionally position one self for opportunities?
when the post from moniepoint started circulating I almost gave in, cause at the time almost every blogger was out there saying whatever they can, everyone with their own opinion and view point about what they feel right, neglecting the obvious truth and fact.
I am a young graduate just finish serving and for the first time in my life I feel lost about the future, not like I did not plan as a matter of fact I consider so many factors cause I never want to be stranded, but yet reality can varies from expectations
joined several groups, submitted countless CV's but nothing was coming forth, in all of these i discovered that there are actually jobs available but I do not have the skills and qualifications needed to fill in the vacant positions. so when people there are no jobs it's a BIG FAT LIE, yeah the system is not clear as it should be but let come back home. let's face the truth. what are we really doing in essence to position our self for any possible opportunities, I realise this myself and i intentionally had to out in my resolution this year to go for paid proffessional courses that would position me for opportunities when the showed up, I made the mistake of neglecting the odds and so now I'm facing them squarely.
i kept scrolling over lots of jobs opportunities but I can't apply to some cause they are totally out of my league, so there are actually jobs but competences and experience are the two most important tools really needed which I didn't have at the moment.
and so I made a decision to go back to the drawing board, started applying for online courses, redefine my portfolio cause it was really too obvious at this point that only my degree is not enough to secure me the dream job I wanted.
so when I read through different persons talking about what the man said and what he should have done better, I just laughed because it's at this point you realized that there is a difference between reality and expectations
it's a different ball game where they are jobs and lack of qualified personnel to fill in those vacancies than were they are no jobs.
