We had a nice Saturday afternoon today, and took a walk into town to do some shopping.
We actually took a different walking route to normal and went through a graveyard. Its not quite as morbid as it sounds as there is a designated thoroughfare through it, and its quite a pretty graveyard !
It had actually been raining all morning, and it was great when the clouds dried up and the sun came out !
And above is one of our fav tombs in this graveyard - imagine building your own pyramid. I hope they are not mummified inside !
We were then getting a lovely blue skies view over Edinburgh - quite nice indeed.
Also, as we cut through the grounds of the gallery I took a pic of the signs above - I've no idea why they are there. You will actually see two of these animals in the grounds (foxes and squirrels), and maybe a third now and again (geese)- but not sheep !
From the graveyard we then went down through the Dean Village. I spotted the building above as we clumb back up the hill towards the centre of town. I just love the little towers and the conservatory type thingy at the top - looks like a lovely place to be when the sun is shining !
The Christmas market is finished now, but the Ferris Wheel was still up in the centre of town (but not running) - its always a bit sad in January when they pack it all away - it can feel like quite a dull month here.
It begins to get dark here early at this time of year (just after 4pm) - and we started to get some nice pinks in the sky for a brief sunset.
We were out shopping for my Dad as it is his 80th birthday next weekend ! With swag in hand we started to head home, and made our way up Rose Street as it was less crowded. I love the rose mosaics that they have built into the paving along Rose Street - quite pretty indeed !
The Christmas lights were still up in Rose Street - this pic does not do them justice, they were quite pretty too.
We then managed to get a glimpse of Edinburgh Castle lit up, on the hill.
And just as we got to the end of Rose Street I spotted the projection above on the side of a building - quite cool indeed !
And then as we crossed Charlotte Square, the dome on the building above was looking quite nice against the darkening sky.
And last but not least, we passed the mock-tudor building below, and then after that my pics were rubbish as it was too dark !
Anyway, we had a lovely saturday afternoon together in town as a family, and are now looking forward to a well earned dinner and restful evening after all that walking. Hope you are all having a great weekend - all the best from Scotland !!!
