A Poem About Being You Against All Odds
Look, Look around
without a sound
Really Look
Without the bankbook
Take away the money signs
And see virtuous kinds
Erase Life’s Franchise
From your eyes.
What is deep inside
Buried and dried?
An unrealised dream
That ran out of steam.
People laughed
Called you daft.

They trampled it
And you quit
Thinking for yourself
Put yourself on the bookshelf
With the same color cover
Should anyone else discover
The crazy idea you once had
And think you utterly mad
But when truth be told
Your idea was pure gold.
An opportunity lost
A potential tossed
Under the heels
Of society’s ideals

I urge you now
To take a vow
To search your soul
And follow YOUR goal
Your greatest care
There is treasure there
Look at your core
And look some more
To find a mission
Without inhibition
Your hearts desire
That sets you on fire
With meaning and more
Making your spirit roar.

Leave materialism at the door
Sweep it off the floor
Give money a reason
To enter in dry season
And change your direction
Upon self-reflection
Where happiness is in sight
It’s lasting and feels right
Not just a tiny fleeting flit
From a shopping dopamine hit
But a sense of wonder
Excitement like thunder
Rippling inside
An unstoppable tide.
