What is uBiome? it's a sequencing microbiome sequencing service that provides information and tools for us to explore the populations of bacteria that live inside our guts. It's made possible by the research from NIH Human Microbiome Project How? you purchase a kit with instructions which allows them to collect your sample from mouth, nose, skin, gut, or genitals and send it back to them by mail. Once they received the kit in their labs in San Francisco they sequence it and email you to view your results. Register your collection kit on their website before sending it back to them It took a couple of weeks to view my results. How can they tell which bacteria is in my sample? simply each microorganism has unique molecular DNA sequence that is 99% similar to each other. The difference in each makes it unique. The bacteria sequence is determined by 16S-sequencing millions of sequences are then compared to large databases of bacteria sequences collected and shared over the years. Results? I will share with you my own report so you can see what it look like. Keep in mind that the report that you get may look different and new information may be added.
Thoughts:
would it be cool to see how I am fairing out next week? next month? next year?
how does my diet change my my gut diversity?
how do I compare when I get sick?
What does your gut diversity report look like?
by the way I think this is really cool and I couldn't wait to share it with you all!
