The other day walking into a Starbucks in Midtown Manhattan, I noticed a public restroom with the sign I've got photographed below:
I had seen some of these gender neutral bathrooms in Spain, but to me in Europe, they are quite progressive with these kind of social issues.
But in the United States, I was quite surprised to see this.
What's my personal opinion?
I think it's fine in general.
Although from what I hear when talking to one of the employees ... is that some people don't like it.
They find it weird to have the opposite sex sharing the same restroom. Or if there are children, then that sometimes gives weird feelings as well.
This is something that will continuously be contested on both sides ... but I do think it's one step in the right direction, because we also have to consider those with different types of sexuality, particularly those that identify as transgender.
Again, I for one don't care, but I can totally see how someone else wouldn't feel comfortable.
