The city of London has decided not to renew Uber's license to operate in the city once it expires at the end of this month. Transport for London - the city's transport authority cited reasons such as Uber's use of "Greyball" towards deciding against allowing Uber to renew its license.
TfL said that Uber's "approach and conduct demonstrate a lack of corporate responsibility in relation to a number of issues which have potential public safety and security implications."
Following the decision, new Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi sent a self-reflecting email to the company's employees telling them that bad reputation has its costs. The email said, "Irrespective of whether we did everything that is being said about us in London today (to be clear, I don’t think we did), it really matters what people think of us. [...]Going forward, it’s critical that we act with integrity in everything we do, and learn how to be a better partner to every city we operate in."
