As I was watching the news yesterday, there was this report on a collapsing bridge in Taiwan. Incidents like that are tragic, esp. for people who lose their loved ones. Tragedy strikes when you least expect it. It makes one realize that life is short and that the future is uncertain. We are all living on borrowed time. Knowing that should motivate each and every one of us to make the most of our time.
There's this quote from Carlos Castaneda that stays with me:
We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves strong. The amount of work is the same.
So, whether we choose to look at the bright side of life, or drown in our own negativity, the amount of time and effort will be the same. Why not choose the lighter load? Be an inspiration to as many folks as possible.
Incidentally, Mom and I also had a conversation yesterday. I was telling her to focus more on being thankful for what she has rather than complaining on what she doesn't have. It's funny that she turned the tables on me, and asked me if I'm living it. Years back, I would have hesitated to give an affirmative answer. This time, I said yes. I'm thankful for each and every day, and so, I'm happy.
I'm not sure who said it first, but I do know that...
happiness is a state of mind.
