After my recent trip to Amsterdam some would have guessed that I would post a Dutch Beer. And you are right!
I headed to my Beer Shop and asked for a Dutch beer excluding the two obvious choices. With this criteria I was left with one option Hertog Jan brewery. I remember having posted a beer from them some time ago.
I would like to have tried something else, but there was no other Dutch beer available and the Dubbel beer I had was actually good. Searching for another beer shop would have meant not being able to post today, which is totally unacceptable. I have a posting streak to maintain.
So, here is Hertog Jan Grand Prestige Beer.
Hertog Jan is a brewery in the Netherlands, which is named after John I, Duke of Brabant.
This is their official site : https://www.hertogjan.nl/
Unfortunately, it is only in Dutch.
I think that they also operate a restaurant under the same name.
First of all the bottle. It is their iconic ceramic bottle that gives an aura of premium. See it and you say to yourself that’s a serious stuff.
Uncork it and pour a glass.
It’s dark reddish brown with a beige thin head.
It’s sweet. Caramel, cocoa and vanilla. But the beer is no vanilla at all. Rich in flavor and strong. A lot of alcohol ( 10%) and after 500 ml you certainly feel it.
Even though I enjoyed it, I have to admit that it is bit heavy for hot summer nights.
I could imagine drinking it besides the fireplace with roast meat full of fat.
I think my next beer will be a very light and refreshing one.
And until the next beer …
