“Hey Berlin let’s see what you've got” I thought to myself and Googled Berlin shows. Best Berlin Shows … The One … Top 10 Berlin Shows … The One … The One … The One ...
Ok , The One, you got my attention … Costumes by Jean Paul Gaultier … Dancing … Singing … Acrobatics … No need to know German … I am sold!
So here I am in this huge theater in the center of Berlin. It’s called Friedrichstadt Palast and it is huge. It is advertised as the world’s biggest theater stage and who am I to argue.
Take my seat and wait for the show to start. The show has a production budget of more than eleven million euros and it shows. More than 750,000 tickets have been sold, more than 100 artists appear on stage, wearing 500 stunning costumes that were designed by the world star of Parisian haute couture, Jean Paul Gaultier.
Indeed, the scene is populated by a plethora of performers. There is a lady that sings in English and in German. There is a small classical ensemble and an electric band that perform the music live.
The story is about a young director who searches the person that means everything to him – THE ONE. But the story is totally irrelevant. What matters is the dreamlike journey you take part in.
The show consists of songs alternating with dancing routines and acrobatics both in the ground and in the air. The music blends with movement perfectly and along with lights puts you in an alter trance-like state.
The costumes are colorful and extravagant but in no way tasteless. Designed by one of the most famous designers in the word they play a crucial part in creating that special atmosphere. Every act is a dream, a journey in a magical world.
Music, colors, lights, movement and the acrobatics. So well thought off, so fluent, so dangerous sometimes. A girl next seat was often was biting her nails in agony. My utmost respect for these performers.
I totally enjoyed the show and I highly recommend it. They announced that we are allowed to take photos during the last applause and I took advantage of it.
You don’t have to know German to enjoy the show. Another great option in Berlin is The Blue Man Band. I saw them some years ago and they are awesome.
That was from me.
