After the loss of two dear Conures this summer and the recent loss of a rescued Black Hooded Rat, we knew it was time for a change.
Losing the birds was heartbreaking for us. I didn't take it well at all. Losing the rat wasn't as bad. He was an older feller and didn't have much time left anyway. If he hadn't come into our garage that night a month back, he wouldn't have lasted through the night. Mr Nibbles had tumors we could feel and passed away last week.
What We Needed Was Man's Best Friend
There she is looking at you from over my shoulder. Lucy is a smart girl. She knows not to poop or pee on the couch. Though we've had several 'accidents' already, she tries to let us know by heading to the sliding glass door.
I've had a couple puppies in my life and met several others. Lucy has the most mellow disposition I've ever seen from a dog this age. She gets playful and wants to bite everything around her, but settles down easy and cuddles on my arm.
Malinois Or Belgian Shepherd Dog
My dear wife Erin did all the legwork to find Lucy. Since we all have birthdays in the next 30 days, Lucy is a present to the whole family. There were several in the litter to choose from, but it was Lucy who showed interest in our son first.
Lucy was a breeding accident between dog owners in a relationship. The man owns the father who's the Malinois. His girlfriend owns the labrador.
The story is that the man breeds Malinois pups for the Army. He went to visit his girlfriend with his dog, not knowing her lab was in heat.
It was definitely time for puppy naps full of puppy dreams. She's been sleeping with her legs up and belly exposed, a sign she feels extremely safe and comfortable.
These selfies help explain why Lucy was so dog gone tired. She had some good nibbles on my ears, nose, neck, and hair.
I'll part with a picture borrowed from Pixabay.com to show how Lucy might look once she puts on more pounds and doggy years.
Yea, I had to find one with a bird on top.
Thanks for your attention. You'll see more of Lucy. As always...
