Preparation sketches, search of composition and so on are really important when it comes to a bit illustration, or a series of them. It's like "thinking on paper", keeping all your minds here.
So, here I want to share preparation sketches I did for illustrations for a story about a boy, who found a dragon egg and raised a friend from it. I can't show the final piece, only preparing colors and composition. So, usually the final color and composition search looks like this in my work:

Before making colors research I pass through a series of sketches, where I'm trying to figure out how the composition must look, how the characters must look.
Body parts, everything. And different solutions for every piece.
This all precedes actually digitalising the drawing or making the final art with traditional mediums;)
