Having grown up in the coal mining town of Slickville, Pennsylvania, Gary Pratt is a man of the land. With a strong country influence, ‘A Song You Can Drink a Beer To’ does not mess around. The track is about switching off, and forgetting life’s hardships after a hard day’s work. Sonically, the music wouldn’t sound out of place in a classic 80s beer advertisement in the days when the working class was celebrated and it was permissible for men to sweat. As we transition into a strange, dystopic future, it is the simple pleasures in life which call to us with a vivid sense of nostalgia. Pratt is aware, and is unafraid to deliver an honest song in a post-truth era. Grab a beer, put your feet up, and revel in the sound of humanity while you still can.
