I just came across this really disturbing article. If you are thinking about getting LASIK eyesight correction, especially this new SMILE procedure, maybe think twice!
This article relates how a news anchor took her own life due to being unable to endure the suffering caused by her eyesight correction surgery.
Turns out it's not an uncommon complication of the surgery to have a lot of pain and double vision. It apparently also isn't that uncommon for patients with these complications to commit suicide!
I myself had the surgery done back in early 2002. I was so terrified through the entire procedure that I was glad they had given me a Valium first. (That's the kind of service you get on Park Avenue in NYC!) I prayed fervently the entire time, and I am not a religious person!
Thankfully I had no complications after surgery. Little did I know how lucky I was for that!
Now 16 years later I am noticing my vision getting a little blurry again. I had been thinking of going back to get the surgery done again, but I most definitely won't be doing that now!
Would You?
Have you had lasik? If so, were there any complications afterward for you?
Would you have it if you had the money to do it, assuming you have a need for contact lenses or glasses? Do you think it's worth the risk, given that not everyone has the complications?
