Tonight I met up with three fellow Steemians here in Saigon for food beers fun and Steem chat. @Hanzkiboy @Phanthiphan and @Jakehorn87 were all on great form. It was such a great night. We went to a Vietnamese restaurant on Vo Van Kiet which runs alongside the canal in District 1, the main business district on the city. It is though, very Vietnamese along this street. Hien Khe is about as local as it gets; great food, beers at 50 cents (I kid you not) and a terrific atmosphere.
Hannu, Jake and Phan were all on great form and we chatted for hours about what we are starting to understand about Steemit. The end result was that all four of us realised that we don't know a great deal. It seems that the more we learn, the less we know. But we are all keen and determined to make this work for all of us. This was four people from four different countries; England, Finland, the United States and Vietnam. All keen to learn about this wonderful new cryptocurrency.
The food was really cool, a wonderful mix of meat, veggies and seafood and cheap cheap beers. I have been here before and it was not surprising that it was completely packed, upstairs and downstairs. The people on the next table, who had obviously been here before, ordered the biggest hotpot I have ever seen. I simply had to ask their permission to take a photo. As Vietnamese always do, they were happy to oblige.
We had baby squid which were roasted to perfection on the barbecue, a beef dish that to be honest had far too much wasabi in it, we were all coughing and spluttering, morning glory with garlic, deep fried squid and pigs liver in a really great sauce.
This place is best described as "different". Though when compared to what we get used to out here, I guess it isn't. The toilets are remarkably Western and come with a positively Western sense of humour. The vomit sink in the gents is designed specifically for the locals, who really cannot hold their beer. I have never known a country where so many people spew up when drunk. Specifically designed vomit sinks? Really?
This really is a great place to meet up with mates and made the perfect venue for Saigon Steemians' first meet up. I am sure we'll be meeting up again soon, and we are all keen to meet with others here in Vietnam's largest city. Steem On!
I have been developing the InSeAsia website for three years. It genuinely is a labour of love. I have lived in Southeast Asia for 9 years and have no plans to ever leave.
