Rather a long one, but what is the fascination of humans with explosives? -- Prompey
[AN: Long one?]
Humans like spectacle. Huge amounts of people working together. Everyday miracles. Teamwork to help some otherwise helpless creature. And big things falling down. They also love watching things explode, from a safe distance, of course.
From a certain perspective - everyone else - this is yet another example of Humanity's collective insanity. Most leave it at that.
Companion Xryk was curious enough to ask his Humans about it. "Why do you like watching explosions?" he asked. He took notes for his records, to be collated and counted at a later day.
"I mean... firewords are pretty," said Human Gav.
"It's exciting," reported Human Tiff.
"I think our inner monkey brains are astounded that we can do this." Human Jor idly played with one of their omnitools. "When I set up the earth-shattering kaboom, it makes me feel powerful watching it all go up."
"Adrenaline," said Human Bob. "Just... pure adrenaline. It's one heck of a high."
"I don't," said Human Nisse.
Every Human had a different answer. Not one answer that was close to a similar theme. It was baffling. It would have been easy to dismiss it as the species wide mental disorder. It would have been simple to declare it as the result of Deathworlder evolution trauma.
There had to be something underneath that surface.
It would be a long time before Companion Xryk found any kind of common thread.
