I thought it was strange when I met my wife and she mentioned she used to have ducks for pets. In college she had a duck while she lived in a basement apartment. The landlord did not know and she had to hide her duck every time he came by.
After we got married it was not long until we got a duck. Our first duck was a black runner that was attacked and killed while we were on vacation. The duck was not very nice, and I was not super sad. We are not sure if an owl, a hawk, or a raccoon got the duck.
We did not get any more ducks for years, but last year my wife got another. This time she got a white peking. That duck was Penelope and she was killed a few months ago by pur puppy. The puppy got a hold of her and nawed on her neck. The duck was alive and even ate, but we had to put her down. That duck also ate one of my wife's diamond earrings off her ear. We hoped to find that earring in the duck, but the vet who put her down did not.
Next we got Phoebe. Another white Peking, but this one has a tuft. It is actually a defect in the birds skull that creates feathers to stick straight up. We have built a duck pen to protect her complete with a pond. The duck is actually quite sweet and loves our dogs. My wife even has duck diapers so the duck can walk around the house without leaving shit everywhere. She lays eggs which can be eaten. They are a little bigger and yokier than chicken eggs. She quacks when she wants attention and loves bugs!
Here is the duck pen.
