Hi there lovelies!
This one used to be a school project but I ended up loving it so here it is!
Once, I was in a group project where we were focused on things we do in our free time. One of us liked to spend time in various café's, one liked movies and one liked playing football. Me, I just liked painting, so I painted them for the project's promotional posters.
Progress
Base sketch. Of course there were looser sketches, this one is the most cleaned up one. The color was for the general atmosphere idea, I wanted this one to be a cozy one. For hands, I took my own picture holding a cup and used that as refrence.
Base colors. Over the background layer and under the sketch. When I put on flat base colors, I like to add some values to make shading process easier. I'm not always that organized, I promise.
Shadows with a multiply layer and lights with a screen layer. I wanted the shadows to be mostly sharp, so the shadow layer was filled with color, then I erased the parts that would be illuminated. I ended up blending them all anyway, haha.
Adding the steam as a general idea so I know where it goes. I played a lot with the steam; put some shapes, blurred, put some more over... I really like the end result though.
After this point, it's all overpainting, rendering and some adjustments.
Here's a progress gif too.
In the end, I'm pretty happy with this one. I especially like the steam and the hands (doesn't a reference help?) but I think I overshadowed her face. It kind of splits to half. Eh, what's done is done. I'll be more careful next time!
