I wouldn't be home by this time if our driver wasn't a courageous one. I left Calabar as late as 6:30 pm. We had an issue getting passengers on time. Once we started on the road, there was no turning back.
Our driver is the bravest human I have ever seen. There were lots of obstacles on the way. When I say lots, you have to believe me. I almost thought we wouldn't be able to make it home.
I have heard a series of stories of how people get robbed or manhandled on a road trip because they ended up in the wrong places at night.
Most of them had bad luck as a result of the vehicles they boarded. This could be an issue of a breakdown. We did see people who encountered such an issue on the way.
For us, our vehicle was in good condition. The only thing we were battling with were the numerous trucks on the road.
Those trucks, stories have it that the drivers are merciless. They dominate the road and do not care about other road users. I saw the reality on this road trip.
I had my heart in my mouth, beating vehemently. Once I boarded, I had already sent all the valuable things I had with me inside the midst of my clothes. I am talking about my wallet, passports, identity cards, and my phone. I didn't want to be found wanting.
I had a feeling we may encounter difficulties, I silently prayed we will get through it, and that I can get home safely. Did we?
I am glad to announce that we did. We got to Akwa Ibom State without any scratch on any of the passenger's body. Everyone was safe and sound. Our driver took us on a journey that was filled with courage and experience.
I say experience because I saw him demonstrate great wisdom with his management and control on the street with the trucks; I was convinced this can only be a lifelong experience. I am proud of him.
The road was really bad, it made me wonder what my government is doing with the money. It turned out, I didn't worry too much about this, because I thought of our safety first. I just wanted to get home safe, then, I can start Looking for who to blame for anything wrong with my country.
Another thing I noticed about our driver, was that he was a lover of money. He kept stopping by the road to pick up passengers, every time someone aligns. We shouted at him to stop that act because he was putting all our lives at risk.
This is because we do not know if those people he is picking up by the roadside are genuine folks. They could be robbers dressed in the form of stranded passengers. Most times, he heeded our complaint, other times, he does his bidding.
Well, I am home, and the Almighty gave us an accident-free journey. I return all glory to him.
