Hi everyone! First time posting in this community. Please give me a warm welcome. :D
When the pandemic started in 2020, I also gave birth to my son in February 2020. Springtime was approaching and my husband started to work on our small terrain for our garden.
Preparing the terrain
My husband started to prepare the terrain in April 2020. It was a very big job to do since the small terrain was full of trash and he needed to cut the grass and trees. Our neighbors own some farmlands. It took us several weeks to clean the area. We decided to have our small garden so that we can have something to eat when the pandemic is getting worse.
April 2020 photos
My husband asked me to get out of the house since I needed it. I was recovering from my Cesarean surgery so I couldn't do anything. He put the trolley of Alexandre there, as you can see in the photo above. All I could do was to take photos.
The plan was to move these big rocks as we need this area for the garden. I need to be physically prepared to do a big job.
I cannot move the bigger rocks so it was my husband's job. I just carried the other rocks that I could move and carry.
As you can see in the photos above, it would take us time to clear everything.
Starting to help in May 2020
I started to help in May 2020 and I was able to slowly recover. There was a lot of trash under the soil so we had to dig and found some broken glass I needed to wear some gloves, or else, I get wounded. Well, everything was so dirty, you can imagine.
It was so difficult because every time Alexandre cried, I needed to stop to breastfeed him.
Every day, it became a routine to go to the garden. I only need to work for 1 to 2 hours. I could do more at most 3 hours.
This was an everyday scenario. Too bad, we never found any treasure while digging. LOL
I Became a Little Farmer
To be honest, when I was in the Philippines, I don't have a green thumb. I never do the dirty work as I was too lazy. We don't even have a small terrain at home so we never had the chance to grow our vegetables. But we had Home Economics at school as we need to tend our garden with our classmates with the help of our agriculture teacher. For me, it was a different feeling to grow your vegetables in your garden. Harvest and eat fresh.
I enjoyed doing some work as it was springtime. And the weather was cool so I don't sweat that much. I only work at least one hour per day. If it wasn't raining then it's fine to work in the garden. When Alexandre starts to cry, that was the time I had to stop, go back to the house, and breastfeed him.
Living in the Countryside
Living in the countryside means less pollution. My husband decided to leave the city and live here as it would be better for our growing family. Then pandemic happened. I felt like we were so safe as we are socially distancing from people. Every day we have fresh air and we hear the birds chirping. When I tried to walk to the forest, I saw a little rabbit jumping somewhere feeling like I was Alice in Wonderland. Seeing horses, cows, and sheep are everyday occurrences and so are the big tractors.
I used to live in a town that turned into a city surrounded by neighbors. Sometimes you hear them singing karaoke. Living in the countryside here in France is new to me. I don't mind living here but I need to learn to drive a car.
Next time, hoping I can share photos of the garden.
