Boycott Mulan?
Liu Yifei has expressed unquestioning support for police enforcement against protesters in Hong Kong. Apparently she is far more of an apologist for abuse than her namesake fanboy spammer and plagiarist here, and her comment on China-approved social media (now there's an Orwellian nightmare) has received widespread Chinese acclaim as they all race to lick the boots of their overlords, while the backlash is restricted to non-Chinese sites.
We often see celebrities eventually apologize for any statement that offends the sensibilities of the politically correct, but will she suffer any backlash for this? "Support the troops/police" is a popular sentiment regardless of the morality of what they do, and while these may be foreign enforcers, such conservative support runs deep even among self-professed "liberals" even though the police and military are invariably the ones trampling liberty. Maybe because mainstream "opposition" is always about seizing the reins of power in order to wield them, not rejecting the legitimacy of that power altogether.
May I humbly suggest boycotting the live-action remake of Mulan in solidarity with Hong Kong and in opposition to the sentiments of that film's star? Heck, pirate the movie if you want to see it, I don't care, just don't send any money to Disney.
