Appreciating Danang's Beachside Beauty on Evening Strolls
Hey Friends, What sup?
Living near the beach in Da Nang, Vietnam, it's easy to take for granted the scenic seaside surroundings. But last night, a walk along the sand with my puppy reminded me not to overlook the beauty right outside my door. As the sun set and the full moon rose, the calm ocean and swaying palms created a serene scene that filled me with gratitude.
After being cooped up working all day, my energetic pup was eager to get outside for an evening adventure. We set out just as dusk was falling, the sky fading to pink behind the silhouette Son Tra peninsula. The beach was mostly empty except a few swimmers still enjoying the ocean (#NoNightSwimmingForMe #TerrorsFromTheDeep).
As we sat and walked in the sand, I was struck by the tranquil atmosphere. The sound of gentle waves lapping the shore mingled with the palms overhead. A warm breeze rustled through the trees with a peaceful whisper. The sand still held the day's warmth beneath my bare feet.
Looking up, I saw the huge white moon rising steadily over the eastern horizon. Its glowing reflection shimmered in the rippling sea before us.
Taking in this harmonious scene, I felt a swell of gratitude. I've been living in Da Nang for 4 years, but how often do I actually mindfully appreciate the lovely beach backdrop that's right outside my apartment? Too seldom, unfortunately.
A friend once shared the idea of the "gilded cage" - when you're surrounded by beauty or privilege but don't fully engage with it. It struck a chord with me. I need to avoid taking for granted what I have right here by forgetting to actually experience it.
Life often pulls us inward, consumed by work and responsibilities, and we neglect our external environments. My energetic pup won't let a peaceful evening go by without insisting we immerse ourselves in it, and I'm thankful for that. He @Kooza draws me out of the gilded cage of the indoor workspace and into the gifts surrounding us.
Wandering the beach with my dog on our walks like last night, feeling the sand give way beneath my feet, smelling the salty air - I was present in the moment. The natural splendor here exists whether I acknowledge it or not, but engaging mindfully makes such a difference. I returned home feeling renewal and motivation I'd been lacking earlier in the day.
So friends, I encourage you to follow your pup's example like I'm trying to do. When you feel trapped in the daily grind, make an effort to get outside and admire what's around you. Don't take for granted the sunsets, changing seasons, little wildlife sightings and beauty that exist everywhere.
Immerse yourself in your environment and appreciate the gifts of your surroundings. It can provide perspective and inspiration when you're feeling stagnant or disconnected. A short walk admiring nature's artistry helps me realign what's important.
The next time you feel unmotivated or down, take your four-legged friend's lead. Get outside, breathe deep, and let the natural world work its magic. You might just find the reset you need was there all along in your own backyard. :D
Cheers
