Initially, it was not easy to publish this post, possibly out of fear that it would be controversial and that there would not be the necessary tolerance. It's just that talking about this subject is delicate, since always, in all stages of history has been like this. It has even punishable by prison (and even the death penalty) not many years ago, and still has. However, kind reader, have a little patience and tolerance with regard to the subject and I invite you to continue reading.
Not long ago, there was a comment that was sent to me about a doctor who claimed to have a cure for homosexuality, which claimed that it was a worm inside the man (and woman?) who craved to feed on semen (on the woman's side she didn't put much emphasis). How about that?
Well, I'm a person who doesn't rule out any theory no matter how strange, but that left me blank. A worm? (At the end of the post I will include the video of the doctor)
But more than whether or not it's a worm, it's the very idea of a vaccine that caught my attention. That's why I decided to make a post to find out your opinions about whether homosexuality is a disease and if it were removed with a vaccine, would homosexuals accept it? What would the LGBT community say about that?
The LGBT movement is a social and political movement that fights against discrimination and homophobia, and in favor of the equalization and recognition of the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and transgender people. In recent years, the movement has also included other groups related to sexuality, such as intersex, queer, bears, polyamorous people, among other groups.
But first let's talk a little about the concept of Homosexuality, and other things to understand things from my point of view.
Homosexuality (from Latin homo, 'equal', and sexus, 'sex') is a romantic attraction, sexual attraction, or sexual behavior between members of the same sex or gender.
Seen from the logical point of view, homosexuality can be called unnatural? It is correct that there are only two well-defined sexes: man and woman. When a baby is born, it is impossible for the midwife or the doctor to say: Congratulations! Your baby is clearly gay or lesbian! No. Obviously, it's not like that, they'll probably say it's a boy or it's a girl, right? Normally we believe that sex has only one meaning, which is reproductive. Although for humans this is not entirely true. But if we look at nature, there are many species (over 400 species) that present a homosexual sexual tendency. I wonder, are all these species sick too?
Homosexuality is not something new and neither does it have its origin as a consequence of overpopulation, perhaps as some conspiracy theories indicate (I will speak more about this later), nor by some drug-induced by governments to control population growth. The truth is that homosexuality has existed for thousands of years (perhaps millions?) and not just in one part of the world. It does not depend on race, creed, religion, social condition, latitudes, and longitudes.
What varies is the attitude of societies towards groups or individuals with this sexual tendency. Unfortunately, there are still many places in the world where it is punished with jail and even death. Not to mention what the church did in the past with regard to punishments for homosexuals (even burning them at the stake).
The church that with its imposition of celibacy has created an environment more conducive to other practices that I prefer to omit in this post. In my opinion, priests should be able to marry or have a partner.
As I mentioned earlier, homosexuality has been present throughout life. Ancient Greece and Rome, civilizations that have had a great influence on our society, on many levels and aspects, until today, were natural in this practice. For the Greeks, same-sex relationships were normal, almost institutional. Also in the Far East, in ancient China and Japan, there is evidence of homosexual tendencies in history. Indigenous races, in many parts of the world, including pre-Columbian civilizations, such as the Aztec, Mayan, etc.
In reality, the word "homosexuality" appears in the middle of the 19th century. So previously there was no concept to define it. In 1952 it was included as a mental disorder by the American Psychiatric Association, which later, thanks to other studies by doctors and psychologists, was able to disprove these facts and by 1973, it was discarded as a mental disorder.
There are theories that indicate that homosexuality originates in gestation, because of the hormonal changes that the mother suffers. There are some theories that indicate that the ingestion of birth control pills generated a proliferation of homosexuality from its invention.
So this could show that homosexuality is born in gestation. However, there is also the possibility that certain non-genetic external factors may change an individual's sexual tendency in early life or childhood.
A friend, whom I admire a lot, she told me about the mouse utopia experiment. And this is where a conspiracy theory of the origin of homosexuality as a consequence of overpopulation appears. Let's talk a little about this experiment.
In 1972, scientist John B. Calhoun conducted an experiment where he took a set of mice and placed them in a place to live with everything they might need for the population to grow. With endless food, water, nesting material and no threats of any kind. This allowed them to reproduce without limits. A utopian paradise that finally became a hell. This experiment had terrible but interesting results: their behavior due to the created overpopulation, made them stop being mice (behaviors from homosexual tendencies to cannibalism) long before they ended in death. This is an experiment that I didn't know about and from which many conclusions and theories of the results obtained can be written.
You can know more about it at:
But to stay on topic, it means that the proliferation of homosexuality currently shows an excessive increase in the population?
Will the end of the world be near?
Nah! Not at all...
As I said earlier, homosexuality existed before Christ (thousands of years before); so I don't think it represents an evolutionary disadvantage or the extinction of the human species.
For many scientists and psychologists, accepting homosexuality into society does not make it spread, but rather achieves better tolerance and harmonious coexistence among communities. For others, more optimistic, the behaviors of love and cooperation play a very important role in our evolution as a society.
Now with this less conflictive feeling about homosexuality, we can return to my main question, which started this post.
Imagine a future in which a "vaccine" has been created (we are going to put it in quotation marks) that does not affect the human organism, nor its metabolism, nor causes cancer, nor any other type of secondary effect other than to eliminate homosexuality. Would homosexual people, both men, and women, be willing to take it?
What would the LGBT community say? I'm sure they would be outraged by that, creating a worldwide commotion.
Knowing all that I have mentioned so far, I think that those people who are marginalized or excluded by societies and customs (both religious, political, and social) of the environment that surrounds them, obviously would be tempted to take them in order to be accepted by a society unable to tolerant or that punishes with prison or death penalty this sexual tendency.
The most certain thing is that the less tolerant governments of some countries would force homosexuals to take it. Gay communities would then have to emigrate to other places where they would be accepted. Quite a social impact. There would be a new division of society, more evident now.
In case the vaccine is preventative. As a parent (being a mother or a father), would you administer the vaccine to your children to prevent them from becoming homosexuals when they become adults? Surely not only for your own convictions and customs you would do so, but also to prevent our children from being part of a society that would be even more repudiated.
Would intolerance and discrimination increase? Possibly yes. The most orthodox religions: Christian, Jewish, and Islamic would force their parishioners to get vaccinated. For them, it would be a reasonable position, based on their beliefs imparted in their sacred texts and then backed by science that would classify homosexuality as an anomaly that can be combated and "repaired". Increasing hatred towards those who do not wish to be repaired.
Quite a dilemma, isn't it?
Possibly those more drastic ones who like to create conspiracy theories would ask me: What would make you think that the government would not use this vaccine to eradicate homosexuality? I would also answer, is it not in the government's interest to use homosexuality as a natural control of the population?
