I wouldn’t call myself a “travel bug”...
I’ve only been to a few countries in my time, and nothing vastly different to my own culture. That long-haired adventurous traveller backpacking through Asia seen in indie films just isn’t me. I like my comforts, and I’m not very adventurous...
That said, there are a few places that I’d love to see some day — if the time and the finances allow. I’m more of a ‘history and culture’ type of traveller. Love to visit museums, historical buildings, listen to local music, that sort of thing...
North America
West Coast
Specifically, California and Oregon. I’ve heard good things about both, but I’ve never managed to make it out to the West Coast of the U.S.
I’d like to see San Francisco, and Portland.
It’s where the hippies were, man! Haight & Ashbury probably doesn’t look the same way, but it would be cool to see it. Portland, I’ve heard that the 90s lives on there.
New Orleans
Mardi Gras! Spicy food! Blues music!
Yes please.
I know there's more to New Orleans than the above, don't yell at me! It would be interesting to see the French influence on the place.
South America
Ecuador - Galapagos
When I was a kid I had a VHS from National Geographic which featured Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. Since then I’ve wanted to see it in real life. What always stood out for me were the Marine Iguanas and the Giant Tortoises! Apparently they're delicious...
I'd like to stand with one foot on either side of the Equator, in the city of Quito, the capital of Ecuador.
Europe
British Isles
I’ve been to England and Scotland, but the former only briefly, and the latter I’d really like to spend more time in.
The history of the British Isles is the most fascinating to me, being mostly descended from these peoples. The culture is also closest to my culture, and we share a lot of customs and traditions, not to mention — language!
I love old cities, rich in history.
I’d like to see the countryside of England, and actually get to visit Ireland — Dublin especially.
Scotland is brilliant, and a gorgeous country. I’d like to revisit Edinburgh and Glasgow, but I’d leave out Inverness this time to be honest! Although, Leakey’s Bookstore was great.
France
The Eiffel Tower, the top of most people's’ bucket lists. Sure, I want to see it so I can say I’ve done it. But I’d like to see outside of Paris as well, in the country. Of course, The Louvre is top of my list.
Scandinavia
The immense natural beauty of places like Norway really appeal to me - mountains, fjords, and the like. Plus, the cultural influence of the vikings on the British Isles is interesting to me.
Asia
India
The furthest out on the list, the last, and the most distant from my own culture. India has very, very old cultures within it, and has impacted the world in so many ways — and continues to do so. Not just in its spirituality and philosophy, but technology and mathematics even. This trip would be the biggest undertaking, and would take a lot out of me. Maybe some day!
