There is a lot to say about personality tests.
One of the most popular is The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). According to The Myers & Briggs Foundation: “The purpose of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®) personality inventory is to make the theory of psychological types described by C. G. Jung understandable and useful in people's lives”.
This is not a scientific post, but MBTI has supposedly been debunked and is not considered to have very high validity or have any scientific basis.
According Roman Krznaric: “If you retake the test after only a five-week gap, there's around a 50% chance that you will fall into a different personality category.”
I have always been INTP (The Logician) in the MBTI.
I am indeed a very logical person.
INTPs is also very inventive and creative. Usually known as the philosopher, the architect, or the dreamy professor type, INTPs have been responsible for many scientific discoveries throughout history.
I have a sense that all the recent critique agains the MBTI is not totally justified.
You also have the rorschach test where you analyse inkblots.
But be careful, it you interpret the inkplots in a certain way, you may even be diagnosed as a psychopath!
There are also a plethora of personality inventories and checklists that psychiatrists and psychologists use everyday to diagnose people so they can give them drugs ( How Psychiatry Stigmatizes Everyone).
The bottomline is that psychology as a field is probably not very scientific at all.
Are you a dog person or a cat person?
I often ask people this questions, especially on dates.
It might look like a trivial questions, but my own opinion is that there is often huge differences between a person that prefer dogs vs. cats as a companions.
Not too strange if you think about it:
Dogs are very social animals and lives in a hierarchy.
The are very dependent, social and seek contact with any other dog or human.
Cats on the other hand have per definition never been tamed. They just came to us because of the rodents (easy food). They are very independent and shy.
I personally dislike dogs. I find them clingy, and you even have to pick up their poo all the time.
The Typical Dog Person
• Self-disciplined
• Strong sense of duty
• Tend to be “planners"
• Outgoing
• Enthusiastic
• Positive
• Energetic
• Trusting
• Altruistic
• Kind
• Affectionate
• Sociable
The Typical Cat Person
• Curious
• Creative
• Artistic
• Nontraditional thinkers
• Easily stressed
• Anxious
• Worriers
I think I nail every traits of the ‘the typical cat person’. What about you?
Maybe the main difference between a dog person and a cat person is ‘extraversion’ vs ‘introversion’.
But on the other hand I guess the average AmStaff owner is somewhat different from the average Chihuahua owner.
A saying is that the dog and the owner are similar. I think there is something in this.
Maybe we should have a combined dog vs. cat person and MBTI.
I suppose it would look like this:
Cat person: INTP, INFP, ISFP, ISTP, INTJ, INFJ, ISFJ, ISTJ
Dog person: ENTJ, ENFJ, ESFJ, ESTJ, ENTP, ENFP, ESFP, ESTP
What Myers-Briggs Type are you? Are you a cat or a dog person? Do my list resonate with you?
Thank you for your time and attention. Steem on!
