Hello Steemians !
My selection today is the Grimbergen, I've done some research about the most exported Belgium beer. And it seems that this beer is well-known in other countries, so let me know in the comment if you have ever heard of it !
Description
The Grimbergen is a blond beer with 6.7%, it's an Abbey beer. The Abbey is located in the north of Brussels but its production is part in Belgium and part in French. Fun fact about it, the Abbey was burned down a lot of time and rebuilt as many time, therefore their logo is a phoenix, reborn in ashes.
An Abbey beer is another label, the same kind as the Trappist one but easier to obtain. You only need to refer your beer to an Abbey or monastic life but it's not necessary that the Abbey is still in activity. Another rule is that a part of the profit must be redistributed to the monastic community. There are about 20 brands making real Abbey beer such as Leffe, Affligem, Maredsous, ...
This label was created to stop the abuses of trademarks on the name Abbey, this is the label :
A little tip, if you're with friends drinking an Abbey beer, check out if this label is there and if not, well that means it's not a real Abbey beer and you can boast with your new knowledge !
Tasting
Time to taste ! There is a very specific smell of malt, it's a soft beer but quite bitter, a little too much for me. Moreover, there is a regular sparkling, a very little fruity taste but not any after taste. In general, I think this beer is soft, round and not too strong. It's a very refreshing beer too.
Rating
I rate the Grimbergen 13/20, it's a great beer I can't deny it, but for me, it's too bitter and it lacks in something but I could hardly explain it. For those who know it, I prefer a Leffe as blond beer.
