BITCOIN NEWS TODAY
The price of Bitcoin hits $10,200 early on Thursday afternoon, climbing back up from a low of $6,000 last Tuesday. The gains came as other cryptocurrencies rallied following reports that South Korea appeared to soften its attitude toward cryptocurrencies this week. The price of Bitcoin currently rests at $9,983 UTC.
SOUTH KOREA
South Korea gave an indication that it would lighten its attitude toward cryptocurrencies this week. A report suggesting that the South Korean government is considering the possibility of a cryptocurrency exchange licensing system.
South Korea Finance Minister Kim Dong-yeon said: “There is NO intention to ban or suppress the cryptocurrency market.” South Korea has one of the largest cryptocurrency markets in the world. Its government scared investors last month after reports that one minister said it was preparing a bill to ban trading on cryptocurrency exchanges.
The South Korean people organised a petition that demanded to have the ministers involved removed from their jobs and to dampen down regulation. The petition gathered over 250,000 signatures, which meant the South Korean government must formally respond to it. This news has given renewed confidence in the cryptocurrency market.
