Desde el mismo 1 de enero ya había visto el final de la mítica serie de Netflix pero es recién ahora que me estoy animando a hablar de ello. Con el final de la historia de Eleven y compañía la marca de la gran N roja pierde uno de sus títulos más preciados durante 10 años y es que la actividad en Hawkins finalmente ha llegado a su cierre luego de una nefasta batalla contra Vecna y dejándolo como uno de los villanos más débiles y pusilánimes de la televisión. Todo esto sin mencionar la cantidad absurda de incongruencias que los hermanos Duffer decidieron omitir para el cierre y es que estoy seguro que un estudiante que aspira a ser cineasta o un mismo fanático acérrimo de la serie hubiese escrito algo mucho más contundente y digno.
I'd already seen the finale of the iconic Netflix series on January 1st, but it's only now that I'm getting around to talking about it. With the end of Eleven and company's story, the big red N brand loses one of its most prized titles of the last 10 years. The action in Hawkins has finally come to a halt after a disastrous battle against Vecna, leaving him as one of the weakest and most cowardly villains on television. And that's not even mentioning the absurd number of inconsistencies the Duffer brothers decided to omit for the finale. I'm sure that an aspiring filmmaker or even a die-hard fan of the series could have written something much more compelling and worthwhile.
Esta última temporada contó con 8 capítulos siendo el séptimo el más bajo en calificación de toda la serie pero el cuarto uno de los mejores y es que es así, esta quinta entrega tuvo sus altos y bajos. La cantidad de hype que se generó en torno a este final empezando por los Duffer alegando que sería una "sangrienta navidad" y que nadie estaba preparado para lo que se venía terminó quedando en promesas vacías. Aquello fue un "alargue del chicle" hasta más no poder, era una trama que había entrado en un bucle infinito: hay un problema, hacemos un plan, lo llevamos a cabo, fallamos o lo completamos a medias y se repite el ciclo. Todo esto no se cuantas veces ocurrió pero ya les digo que fueron unas cuantas.
This final season consisted of eight episodes, with the seventh being the lowest-rated of the entire series, but the fourth one of the best. And that's just how it is; this fifth season had its ups and downs. The hype surrounding the finale, starting with the Duffer brothers claiming it would be a "bloody Christmas" and that no one was prepared for what was coming, ultimately amounted to nothing. It was a drawn-out, endlessly stretched-out storyline, a plot that had entered an infinite loop: there's a problem, we make a plan, we carry it out, we fail or only half-heartedly complete it, and the cycle repeats. I don't know how many times this happened, but I can tell you it was quite a few.

Comencemos por Vecna. Un ente o criatura que era todopoderoso en temporadas pasadas, incluso en los primeros 4 episodios de esta quinta se le vio con mucha aura. Toda esa construcción de un villano real y temido se tiró por el abismo en la batalla del capítulo final en donde quedó reducido a la nada, ese infinito poder de repente no lo tenía y de aquel Vecna solo quedaban retazos. Pero lo más triste de todo es que su final fue en manos de Joyce, una humana sin ningún tipo poder más allá del amor por su hijo. Fue una muerte muy simbólica si, pero no deja de ser lamentable. Si a esto le sumamos que el Mind Flyer (el azotamentes), otra de las cosas que se veía super intimidante en aquel final de la primera temporada quedó sometido a punta de balas y bombas molotov pues no hay mucho que decir. Aunque si, esa batalla estuvo decente.
Let's start with Vecna. An entity or creature that was all-powerful in past seasons, even in the first four episodes of this fifth season, it exuded considerable aura. All that build-up of a truly fearsome villain was shattered in the final battle, where it was reduced to nothing. That infinite power was suddenly gone, and only fragments of the Vecna remained. But the saddest part of all is that its end came at the hands of Joyce, a human with no power beyond her love for her son. It was a very symbolic death, yes, but no less lamentable. If we add to this that the Mind Flayer, another thing that seemed incredibly intimidating in that first season finale, was subdued with bullets and Molotov cocktails, well, there's not much more to say. Although, yes, that battle was decent.
¿Qué pasó con los rusos?, ¿que pasó con los militares?, ¿que pasó con la doctora Kay, quizás la peor villana de toda la serie? - es imposbile que una trama gire en torno a un personaje, a sus planes, a que muchas de las cosas que pasaron en esta quinta temporada fueron motivadas por ella y que para el final de la serie no se le haga ningún tipo de mención acerca de su destino. Trato de entender lo sucedido y no le encuentro lógica. Casi una temporada completa se grabó en una cárcel rusa para absolutamente nada. Cuando uno ve estas cosas es cuando cobra sentido el último "escándalo" y es que en el especial BTS se ve como en las pantallas de computadoras se ven pestañas con ChatGPT y Reddit abiertas. Ya se sabe que cuando comenzaron a grabar el ultimo capitulo el guión no estaba terminado. Un desastre total.
What happened to the Russians? What happened to the military? What happened to Dr. Kay, perhaps the worst villain in the entire series? It's impossible for a plot to revolve around a character, her plans, the fact that many of the events in this fifth season were motivated by her, and then, by the end of the series, there's absolutely no mention of her fate. I'm trying to understand what happened, and I can't find any logic in it. Almost an entire season was filmed in a Russian prison for absolutely nothing. When you see things like this, the latest "scandal" makes sense: in the BTS special, you can see tabs open on computer screens with ChatGPT and Reddit. It's already known that when they started filming the last episode, the script wasn't finished. A total disaster.

Los Demogorgon brillaron por su ausencia en capítulo final, "ellos estaban por ahí" dijeron los genios de los Duffer. Los Demonbats, si, esos que mataron a Eddie, tampoco se les vio más, su razón de ser fue nula y sinsentido. Y así podemos seguir pero esto sería infinito. La realidad es que Stranger Things no terminó a la altura porque hasta la historia alternativa de que Eleven pudiera estar viva demuestra una tibieza muy grande en negarse a aceptar la muerte definitiva de uno de sus personajes. Son muchos huecos en un guión que parece haber sido escrito por unos niños de 10 años. Pero no todo es malo. Si, aunque parezca insólito hay sus cosas a destacar. Jamie Campbell Bower es un actorazo, lo mejor de este final fue él, un tipo carismático que encarnó el mal y los traumas como nadie lo hubiese hecho.
The Demogorgons were conspicuously absent from the final episode; "they were out there," the Duffer brothers said. The Demonbats, yes, those that killed Eddie, were also nowhere to be seen; their purpose was null and utterly pointless. And we could go on and on, but this would be endless. The truth is that Stranger Things didn't end well because even the alternate storyline of Eleven being alive demonstrates a profound reluctance to accept the definitive death of one of its characters. There are many plot holes in a script that seems to have been written by 10-year-olds. But it's not all bad. Yes, although it may seem unbelievable, there are some highlights. Jamie Campbell Bower is a fantastic actor; the best thing about this finale was him, a charismatic guy who embodied evil and trauma like no one else could have.
Holly Wheeler (Nell Fisher) también se llevó toda la atención, cargó con gran parte de la temporada y lo hizo de 10. Algunos cierres de los personajes me gustaron, como el de los cuatro mayores en la azotea de la radio (Nancy, Steve, Jonathan y Robin), eso se sintió como una despedida real, fue algo emotivo. Y poco más. La conclusión es que ST pudo haber terminado en los más alto pero en cambio nos dio un final muy flojo e incompleto. Para algunos una decepción. Creo que los Duffer no se atrevieron a hacer cosas más arriesgadas por temor al fandom. Cero conforme quedé, como se puede apreciar en lo escrito. Para mi fue un 5.5/10. Holly Wheeler (Nell Fisher) also stole the show, carrying a large part of the season and doing a fantastic job. I liked some of the character closures, like the one with the four older kids on the radio station rooftop (Nancy, Steve, Jonathan, and Robin). That felt like a real goodbye; it was quite emotional. And that's about it. The bottom line is that Star Trek could have ended on a high note, but instead, it gave us a very weak and incomplete finale. For some, it was a disappointment. I think the Duffer brothers didn't dare to take more risks for fear of the fandom. I was completely dissatisfied, as you can see from what I've written. For me, it was a 5.5/10.
