I saw this film months ago and had forgotten to recommend it. It's a Spanish road movie where two characters with completely opposite personalities, both a mess, meet. Their lives are chaotic. By chance, or rather, by the film's plot, they end up traveling from Valencia, Spain, to a town in Romania.

Like any good road trip, besides seeing beautiful landscapes, places they stop, and the typical road scenes, it shows how these two men, who agree that one of them will drive, get to know each other little by little, having their disagreements and arguments, but also forging a friendship: the most beautiful part of this type of film.

Mario seems terrified of the road; he doesn't know how to drive. At first glance, he seems quite crazy; he has mental health issues, needs medication, and struggles to speak clearly and answer confidently. Who on earth is this man? Besides always carrying a briefcase, he never wants to be without it. What does he keep in there? Is he a criminal? Where did he get so much money, and why is he so determined to go to a certain place, supposedly to see a bird? Who is he looking for?

Although the answers to these questions might suggest a dark and criminal plot, that's not the case at all. On the contrary, what he's doing is a great act of love. He needs to settle accounts with the past, with his mistakes, and with his personal tragedy. Love and guilt consume him. His story is moving.

Colombo is the typical cunning man who takes advantage of everyone, a womanizer, a drinker; he enjoys life as if it were his last day, but inside and out he's broken. His son had a birthday, and he couldn't give him a proper gift, or even see him. He has financial problems, but he also feels empty inside. Incapable of being with the person he loves, incapable of being a support to that special person. Is living only for pleasure a way of hiding his sadness?

Two magnificent Spanish actors, whose work I admire. Both award-winning: Javier Gutiérrez and Luis Sahera. Just seeing the two of them makes the movie worth watching. They're excellent in their roles, and their unlikely chemistry as a couple is breathtaking.

Funny, beautiful, and sad. That's how I'd sum up this film. Watch it and let me know what you think in the comments.

Vi esta película hace meses y se me había olvidado recomendarla. Es una película española de carretera donde dos personajes con personalidades totalmente opuestas, pero ambos un desastre, se encuentran. Sus vidas son un caos. Por azares del destino, o mejor dicho, por la trama de la película, acaban viajando desde Valencia, España, hasta un pueblo de Rumanía.

Como en cualquier buen viaje por carretera, además de ver paisajes preciosos, lugares donde paran y las típicas escenas de carretera, muestra cómo estos dos hombres, que llegan a un acuerdo para que uno de ellos conduzca, se van conociendo poco a poco, teniendo sus roces y discusiones, pero también forjando una amistad: la parte más bonita de este tipo de películas.

Mario parece aterrorizado por la carretera; no sabe conducir. A primera vista, parece bastante loco; tiene problemas mentales, necesita medicación y le cuesta articular palabras y responder con seguridad. ¿Quién demonios es este hombre? Además de llevar siempre un maletín en la mano, nunca quiere separarse de él. ¿Qué guarda ahí? ¿Es un criminal? ¿De dónde sacó tanto dinero y por qué está tan empeñado en ir a cierto lugar, supuestamente para ver un pájaro? ¿A quién busca?

Aunque las respuestas a estas preguntas podrían sugerir una trama oscura y criminal, no es así en absoluto. Al contrario, lo que hace es un gran acto de amor. Necesita saldar cuentas con el pasado, con sus errores y con su tragedia personal. El amor y la culpa lo consumen. Su historia es conmovedora.

Colombo es el típico hombre astuto que se aprovecha de todo, un mujeriego, un bebedor; disfruta la vida como si fuera el último día, pero por dentro y por fuera está destrozado. Su hijo cumplió años y no pudo darle un buen regalo, ni siquiera verlo. Tiene problemas económicos, pero también se siente vacío por dentro. Incapaz de estar con la persona que ama, incapaz de ser el apoyo de esa persona especial. ¿Vivir solo por placer es una forma de ocultar su tristeza?

Dos magníficos actores españoles, cuyo trabajo admiro. Ambos premiados: Javier Gutiérrez y Luis Sahera. Solo con verlos a ellos dos ya vale la pena ver la película. Son excelentes en sus papeles y la química que tienen como pareja, tan improbable, es impresionante.
