A house inhabited by an elderly couple, who go out for a walk. With the house alone, it is the ideal time for criminals to enter and steal.

What is the plot of the film?
Nathan and Terry, childhood friends, along with another young criminal named Gaz, plan to rob the house of an elderly couple, Dr. Richard Huggins and his wife, when they are not in the house. Terry's mother, who works as a cleaner there, knows there is a safe. Nathan's girlfriend Mary will be involved in the robbery. Not knowing the combination to the safe, they decide to wait until the Huggins return home to force them to open the safe. But it all goes wrong, the owners are not what they seem.

It will be difficult to give my opinion, without revealing some parts of the plot. I suggest that you do not continue reading if you do not want to know important parts of the story.
First I must tell you that I liked the film very much. In the middle of the film, when everything changes, the plot becomes more disturbing and each scene increases the violence, blood, screams, fights, deaths. It's the kind of film that gets my adrenaline pumping. When I see bloody scenes, I imagine that the characters are all the people I don't like. It serves as a catharsis for me.
The story takes the time to introduce us to each of the characters, the three young men who plan the robbery, following the stereotypes of the genre: Nathan is the insecure boy, who wants to be tough, but is not really prepared to be a criminal. Terry is the idiot, the most innocent and the dumbest. Gaz is the one who breaks the rules, who is determined to do everything, the tough guy. Then there is the character of Mary, Nathan's girlfriend, who is pregnant, is the main character, the one who will do the impossible to survive.
We have seen the characteristics of these characters in other similar films, to give an example, the film Don't Breathe, in which young criminals enter the house of a blind man to rob him, but everything turns against them.
In The Owners, the house is inhabited by an elderly couple. Richard is the village doctor, and his wife is Ellen, who was his nurse for a long time. Both old people seem harmless, even pitiful, when they are beaten by young criminals. The scenes make us empathize with the Higgins and Mary.
I saw the trailer a month ago, and I knew what the twist of the story was, but I enjoyed it so much, because the director knows how to keep up, immersing us in the disturbing story, with other surprising revelations, giving us some clues, but it is in the tragic ending that we see the whole picture.

The film is directed by French filmmaker Julius Berg, who has experience in series made in his country, there is one called The Forest, available on Netflix, which I have not seen. Among his previous important productions, we find the series based on the novel Los ríos de Color Purpura, a story that was taken to the big screen years ago. I haven't seen those series either, but I'll give them a chance, I liked the work done in The Owners.
I must highlight the excellent work of the actors who play the Higgins couple. It is the British actresses Sylvester McCoy and Rita Tushingham, under the guise of Richard and Ellen Higgins, the seemingly harmless owners of the house. McCoy is well known in his country, he started as a comedian and has a long career, being a well-known face for his participation in the series Doctor Who. Rita is a British actress with over forty films, including a 1965 version of Doctor Zhivago. Her character in the film is quite disturbing.
Ian Kenny, an actor I recently saw in the series The Dublin Murders, plays Nathan. Actor Andrew Ellis plays the clumsy Terry and Jake Curran plays the character of Gaz. These young actors are building a career, having participated in several television series and films.
The star of the film is Maisie Williams. For those of us who were fans of the series Game of Thrones, the actress will always be our beloved Arya Stark, the one who killed the King of the Night. She plays Mary, the girl who must do everything possible to survive and escape from the house of horrors. I think she does well in these characters, she has already acted in other horror movies and soon I will see the movie The New Mutants.

The film is an adaptation of the graphic novel "Une nuit de pleine lune" Hermann Huppen, together with Yves H. Both authors published several successful graphic novels. I have never read the graphic novel and cannot evaluate whether it is a faithful adaptation or whether it was modified for film purposes.
I recommend it if you are a fan of terror, violence and blood. If not, you'd better go see Mulán. I really liked The Owners, it has everything I'm looking for in a disturbing story.

My Ranking: 3.4/5
