In a previous life I was a soldier, then a scientist. I fought in Iraq, then mined gold in Alaska. Nowadays, I'm a full stack software developer specializing in micro apps and I write fiction on the side. And sharing my fiction is why I'm here.
As a teenager, so many years ago---okay, I'm not that old---I wanted nothing more than to make my living as a novelist. But back then, before the e-book revolution, the only viable way into a fiction-writing career without an existing fan base was through a gauntlet of gatekeepers. It was a long, difficult journey to get a first book published, and it was unlikely to pay well in any case. Worse, the traditional publishing gatekeepers didn't seem too keen on the sort of fiction I like to write. Facing those realities, I decided to focus my efforts elsewhere.
I started getting serious about writing again for NaNoWriMo in 2010, and I've been writing off and on ever since. My style has evolved into what I can best describe as modern action fantasy pulp, though my stories do sometimes wander into horror territory. I consider myself a fringe member of the PulpRev movement, and I'm determined to do my part to make science fiction and fantasy fun again.
I'll mostly be posting relatively short, serialized fiction here on Steemit, and all the fiction I post will be posted here first. All stories will be complete before I post the first installment, so you don't have to worry about being left out to dry once I hook you.
It's possible I'll write non-fiction posts as well, but that's not my plan right now.
Finally, in the interest of honesty, I'll reveal that this is not my real name. It's a pen name I chose about two years ago, but I have not published anything under it. I'm not concerned about people knowing my real name, but for professional reasons I prefer to keep my fiction career separate in any searches. I will also probably never post a face-revealing picture of myself, and lacking a face-obscured picture at hand, you'll have to make do with one of my border collies:
Thanks for reading! I hope to see you in my story comments soon.
