I have just come from a conversation with a friend who I was telling about Steemit and opportunities in blockchain. As you may imagine, it is hard to wrap your head around everything at first. I still remember the rush I had when I first joined this platform. To be honest, for me, it was about the money. Apart from that, I also loved writing. I am that kind of person who writes 3 pages on my notebook every morning. I discovered this kind of exercise from a Youtuber called Lavendaire. I have always been a writer. I love talking and coming up with stories so as you can imagine, it was not hard for me to hop on this platform.
For me, I think I took about 2 weeks to even make a dollar on this platform. I cannot forget the rush I felt. I was excited. I wrote a post everyday for about 3 months. I made my first withdrawal 3 months later and did shopping and paid my rent. Haha!
Afterwards, I started learning more bout this platform I realised, it is so much more than the money. The quality of connects and learning you do here is amazing.
I started a Kenyans on Steemit group
I realized that instead of complaining how Kenyans are not on Steemit, or how the existing groups aren't engaging, I would create that community.
The community was amazing. I even did a post about why you need to join a community
Why be in a Steemit Community?
Possibilities are endless. Where do I start?
You meet other like-minded people.
You get more upvotes and re-steems.
You get more eyeballs to view your content.
You get more people to encourage you.
You become part of a community and you share ideas during the face to face meetings.
This was the banner we used. We were about 35 active members at some point and the group is still in existence here https://discord.gg/6nAkYH
We had 5 successful meetups and these were amazing. We all supported each other.
I wrote tons of posts.
This was such a great platform for me to blog. See some of my older blogs.
I did a post to compare my journey on Steemit and on Wordpress
I have been blogging on Wordpress for a few years and I have been blogging on Steemit for a month. However, I cannot deny how the two, despite being blogging platforms are so dissimilar. When it comes to monetization, Steemit proved to be the better option because you can earn money depending on the content you put up. The money that I have earned on Steemit for a month would take me like 3 months to earn the same when blogging.
However, when it comes to customization, Wordpress wins because it helps me customize my content and make it visual. I can use as many fonts as I like on Wordpress. There are hundreds of themes. Another advantage of Wordpress is that I can categorize my content whereas in Steemit it is hard to categorize. The only option is to use tags.
While I weighed these pros and cons, I have discovered that my platform of choice is Steemit. At least for now, because I am building a community, knowing people, reading great content and making money.
We made Steemit Tshirts in Downtown Nairobi
and I went to downtown Nairobi to make Steemit tshirts. Read the exciting story here
I wrote my first post for Adsactly
Getting accepted to be a contributor for this amazing community was a dream come true. I love and I have written countless articles for them. To rad them, I always resteem the articles I write so you can read them on my Steemit Blog.
The Prices Tanked and I left 5 months ago.
I addressed this in a post.
There was a mass exodus when prices began to drop. I think this was a way to thin out those who were creating content because they love to and those who were making content to make money. I was 50%/ 50%. However, I have now changed my perspective and I am looking to create better content and network with people regardless of how much SBD I am making. Knowing why people left is a great way to know how to get them back. The idea is to convince them to have a long-term mentality.
I came back a month ago with renewed vigor and vitality
Things were not as rosy when I came back. I had to start from scratch rebuilding friendships and reaching out t people. I found people willing to help and even did a video appreciating them.
I came back to Dtube a few days back, confused and like a headless chicken. However with time, I am getting a grasp on how things work thanks to selfless souls. Today I just want to appreciate and thank 3 people who have been instrumental in helping me out. (
