So last night, my neighbor (who sold this house in Aug) called to ask if I'd like some stuff, including this Ham.
She'd had it in her freezer, had no plans to use it, and was tired of moving it around to make space for other stuff.
It is 17 lbs!!
It is cooked, smoked, cured or all of the above. So I set it in my sink last night and left it to thaw.
This morning, I called my niece, whose friend was about to leave after having had cataract surgery a few days ago.
She is always in need of food. The friend, not my niece š
I cut this part off, and took it over to them along with some apples and cartons of juice from the school lunch program.
I came back, called my neighbors on the otherside to see if I could share some of this bounty with them; I for SURE don't have space in either or both my fridge/freezer for the rest of this meat.
The one guy doesn't take food from people, even if he knows them.
The lady who lives behind him, said sure, she'd take some. I asked her if she'd like me to bring it when she gets off work, or better yet, you come over here and that way you can see my house!
She agreed, so after 4:30 or so, I'll be able to get rid of some more of it.
In the Meantime
I cut several slices, then cut those into chunks. The only thing I have that will process something this way is this small...I think it was meant to be a spice grinder.
I almost burned it out till I figured out I couldn't put more than a small handful in it at once.
That took a while, but...
I ended up with this much ground up, and you can see how much I STILL have to deal with somehow.
Using my handy dandy slicer machine,(which scares the hell outta me) I sliced up the last bit of celery I had in the fridge.
Later I used that device to dice a little raw onion as well, but no photos of that
Then the assembly begins... there ain't nuttin' better than Dukes Mayonnaise. Bar none (unless you were to make your own I suppose)
Horseradish (y'all know I like tangy stuff, right?š)
There were no slices left in this, just some vinegar and all the pickle spices in the bottom (I like things Spicy as well š„)
Blew up an egg
Which after being shelled, was diced
The end result?

I thought I was buying Pumpernickel bread on sale, but it was just whole wheat.
Oh well.
