In the dead of the night
When the winds were still and the birds quiet
When the moon was at its highest
And all forms of life were at rest
Her eyes fluttered open and she let out a sigh
Finally,some solitude
How she wished her days were as silent as this
How she wished, just for once, she would be left alone
Left to her own devices
Left to enjoy her own company
To be free to exist in her own space
All she asks for is peace of mind
Away from the criticisms and disparaging chatter of society
Away from the raucous cacophony of the indigenes
Away from all the unhealthy competition and the feigned concern
Why do they not understand?
Why do they brand her as antisocial?
Why do they coerce her to indulge in their hypocrisy?
Why do they compel her to conceal her emotions,to put on a mask?
She's tired of the fake smiles and forced laughter
Those insincere greetings irritate her
The false endearments suffocate her
Perhaps she's not meant to live in this world
Perhaps she should be sent to another planet
Whatever be the case, she only wants to be permitted
To be content with the confinement her room affords her
At least she'll be free from the judging eyes and disapproving faces
At the end of the day, isn't serenity all that matters?
She tries to drift off once again into dreamland
But she cannot restrain the naked truths that plague her subconscious
Truths that soon the sun will rise
To set in motion another torturous day of human interaction
Will this ever end?
