Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I saw a battle where I took advantage of the ruleset.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan
The rulesets this time are Back to the Basics. This means that all monsters have no abilities. There is also 55 mana available, and I can use any splinter except for fire or dragon.
| Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marlai Singariel | 6 | Summoner | +1 Magic |
| New Beluroc Aegis | 8 | 1st | |
| Great Bear Druid | 9 | 2nd | |
| Lunaki Howler | 7 | 3rd | |
| Water-Logged Wizard | 6 | 4th | |
| Mystic Scaleweaver | 9 | 5th | |
| Saltwater Mage | 8 | 6th | |
| Total Mana: | 53 |
My summoner is Marlai Singariel for the +1 magic. I have New Beluroc Aegis as my tank and Great Bear Druid as my backup tank. The rest of my monsters are all magic monsteers
The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. The first few monsters can tank most of the damage, and the rest of my lineup is all focused on dealing magic damage. Back to the basics removes abilities so magic monsters are the obvious choice to me.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that I have the advantage. My magic monsters are buffed up by my archon buffed up by my archon, and my opponents' damage is lower than mine.
Round 4
A few rounds later, my opponent is down to 2 monsters, while I still have 4. This is my win because the first monster will die from my magic monsters, and that means my opponent can't attack anymore.
I won later that round.
Conclusion
The battle did go exactly as planned. I went with a magic lineup buffed up by my archon, and it worked out amazingly in terms of damage. It easily overpowered my opponent because water in frontier is just that powerful.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
