Today, we all received the tragic news that Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington committed suicide. The singer was allegedly found hanging in his home in L.A. County. The music world will never be the same.
The singer had spoken publicly in the past about his struggles with drugs, alcohol, depression, and being abused as a child. He leaves behind six children, two girls and four boys.
Bennington was close with former Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell, who also hung himself in May. Today happens to be Cornell’s birthday. Is this what inspired him to do it? The world may never know.
I know that I shed a few tears when I learned of Chester’s death. I grew up listening to Linkin Park. I remember listening to their album Hybrid Theory on repeat. Two of its most popular tracks included “In The End” and “One Step Closer.” I had the opportunity to see them perform live in Holmdel, New Jersey a few years ago. So much talent came from that stage.
R.I.P. Chester Bennington.
